The Basic Refurbishment which involves simply replacing doors, drawer fronts and possibly handles produces an amazing visual impact for the small amount of time and money spent. This is the preferred choice for many customers who just want to 'smarten up', prior to selling their property.
With only a little preparation the Basic Refurbishment or 'Mini Makeover' can be accomplished by virtually anyone possessing only elementary DIY skills and minimal tools.
The usual way to start is to check our Mini Makeover-Prices page to see how prices compare for the various door types. Another way to choose is by browsing our Door Catalogue and then request a Quotation. At this stage it is not necessary to know where hinge holes are to be placed, just advise which doors are to be drilled. In order to get a Quotation you will need to measure the height and width of each Door and Drawer Front (in millimetres), noting the quantity of each size. Whilst measuring it is a good idea to check the condition of your existing hinges. In most cases these will be fine for re use but if you are in any doubt we can supply new Hinges/Plates. Whilst measuring it is also a good time to see what type of drawer boxes you have. These are made from various materials and may be '4' sided ie a complete box, or alternatively '3' sided where the drawer front itself is the fourth side. The drawer fronts may be fitted to '4' sided boxes by screwing the new front from inside the box. The '3' sided boxes are usually attached to the fronts by means of adustable brackets which simply screw on or off. Some plastic drawer boxes rely on a slot being cut into the back of the drawer front to take a hardboard base. In our experience this does not provide adequate support consequently we do not provide a slot cutting service. A low cost solution to this problem is to make up a fourth side for the drawer box by screwing a piece of material between the drawer sides and screwing through this to attach the new drawer front. Another alternative is to purchase new drawer boxes.
With this information and once you have chosen your door style by following the links you can obtain a Quotation On Line. If you would prefer, we have a Quick Quotation form which you can fill in and send to us, we will promptly respond with the Quotation.
Once you have decided to order we transcribe all of the information you have provided for the Quotation (including hinge hole positions) on to a Specification form which we scan and Email back to you for checking and approval prior to manufacture. When the order is ready for despatch (usually 3-4 weeks) we Email requesting that you select the most convenient date for delivery. On receipt of the goods we request that you thoroughly check all items as soon as possible but within 48 hours of receipt to ensure that all is OK, immediately notifying any discrepancies.
It is not necessary to empty all of your cupboards and drawers before fitting but you may find it easier to clean up when you have finished if you do so. If you are re using existing hinges and have specified the same positions for the holes in the new doors then all you need to do is to undo the two screws which attach each hinge to the 'old' door and carefully remove the door. The hinges, which are left attached to the cabinets by means of the mounting plates can then be inserted into the pre drilled 35mm dia holes on the back of each new door and screwed into place. Providing that you have not disturbed the 'setting' of the hinge then nothing further is required, if the new door is out of alignment then this can be easily corrected by the adjustment on the hinge. Repeat this procedure for all of the doors and then fit the drawer fronts in the appropriate manner depending on your existing drawer boxes (see above).
When all doors and drawer fronts have been fitted and are satisfactorily 'aligned', offer up a handle to one of the doors and decide on the best position for it to be fixed. Mark the door in the appropriate position and measure so that all of the other doors can have their handles fixed in the same place, then drill 4mm dia holes through the door from the front. Insert the bolts which are provided with the handles through the holes from the back of the door and screw into the handle. Repeat for all doors and then decide on the best positions for the drawer handles and fit those in a similar manner. As the positioning of handles/knobs is very much to personal taste we do not pre drill doors or drawer fronts for handles.
