Real Wood Kitchen Bedroom or Bathroom, Panel Door Ranges
Real Wood replacement doors are distinguished from solid wood replacement doors by virtue of the fact that these have flat panels which have a real wood veneer on MDF. The frames of these doors are made from solid timber and may have square or moulded edges. The doors may be supplied in natural unfinished wood for you to stain and polish (or indeed paint) yourself or we can supply ready finished with a clear lacquer or paint already applied. It is difficult to beat the beauty of Natural Wood, however, it should be appreciated that all woods, on exposure to light, tend to darken. Therefore, the colour
of brand new doors, straight from the factory, will always tend to be much paler than doors which have been around for some time. This ageing process
will continue in most cases for years, with the rate of darkening depending on the level of light exposure. If this is considered undesirable a stain
can be added at the finishing stage, this will darken the doors and thus mask the natural ageing process. Another feature of real wood which
should be considered is that throughout the tree there is colour and grain variation, thus a panel door made from several pieces
of wood will have a variety of grains and colours. This is what makes each real wood door unique and so desirable. Wardrobe size doors are available as are glazed or mirrored panel options for most styles but we would recommend that for unfinished doors we supply rebated open frames for you to glaze after finishing is complete.
These replacement doors are 5 piece that is they comprise a frame which is made from 4 separate pieces and an inset panel. The vertical parts of the frame are known as stiles and the horizontal pieces are rails. The frames vary in width depending on the style but all are 21mm thick with an 8mm thick veneered panel. All doors are made in the traditional way with butt corners and are secured with glued mortice and tenon joints. The Minimum height or width for a square panel is 220mm, for a cathedral arch the minimum height is 280mm. Below these minimums the door or drawer front will be made in a single piece from solid timber with optional face rout. The Maximum height is 2400mm, Maximum width is 700mm.
All of the doors in all of our ranges are completely made to measure and we will quote for any size which is specified (within the size limits for that range - see above). It is worth noting however that in order for doors and drawers to open without rubbing against an adjacent item then door and drawer front widths are usually a few mm less than the cabinet width. A typical door or drawer front for a 500mm wide cabinet would be 496mm wide. At the stage where you are providing sizes for us to quote please do not be too concerned about this aspect. Once you have placed your order we have a tried and tested system for ensuring these sorts of details are specified correctly. Similarly with hinge holes, for quotation we only need to know whether the door is to be drilled or not, we will request details for positions when you have placed the order.
